Greene County High School has a new head football coach.
Mitch Moore is a 2002 Ballard High School graduate. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. He was most recently the director of Iowa high school relations for Iowa State University. Moore came to ISU when former Cyclone football coach Paul Rhoads was hired and he stayed on when coach Matt Campbell replaced Rhoads.
“I kind of told him, I’ll do this for a year for you and just know that I want to get back and be a head coach and be back on the field. And so when this came up, I sat down with Matt (Campbell) and he was the first guy I talked to. ‘Coach, I need your advice’ And I didn’t even get the sentence out and he says you’ve got to go do it. He said ‘You need to be a head coach, it’s a great opportunity for you and I know that’s your passion.’”
Besides coaching the Rams football team, Moore will be helping out the Greene County Youth Athletic Association, teaching and training young athletes in the area.
Moore replaces Dean Lansman who resigned as head football coach in January. Lansman will continue to be the head boys’ track and field coach, activities director and a high school science teacher.
