With more than 900 entries registered from more than a dozen area schools, Perry High School is a busy place full of talented musicians today.

The 34th annual Perry Band Olympics is taking place today.  It’s one of the largest solo and ensemble contests in the Midwest and also serves as the Perry band’s biggest fundraiser of the year.  Director Brandon Weeks says they make money from both the $3 gate admission and concession stand sales.  The entire event, with the exception of some adult help selling concessions, is completely student run.  It also gives the musicians a chance to be critiqued and receive feedback from college and university music professors from across the state.

The event is open to the public and will conclude with an awards ceremony around 3:30pm.
