Stuart EMS is trying a new organizational system during a 90-day trial period, approved by the city council at their most recent meeting. During the organizational probationary period EMS staff will report directly to the Public Works director. Streets and police personnel will assist EMS shifts as needed, when available. The public works director, will meet weekly with the city administrator to discuss EMS operations. These changes will be accompanied by salary adjustments and an audit of the last 5 years of department finances. An evaluation at the end of the trial period will take into account response time, billing and teamwork between departments, among other factors.
