The Greene County High School girls’ basketball team ended the regular season with a 56-17 loss on Tuesday night at Gilbert in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play. Coach Dean Lyons’ team is 4-17 and finished 3-13 in the conference, while the Tigers improved to 8-13 and 6-10. Gilbert swept the two-game season series from the Rams. It took 7:46 of playing time for Greene County to get its first points at Gilbert. By that time the Rams were down 16-0, and they trailed 18-2 after one quarter, 41-8 at the half, and 49-15 after the third quarter was over. Most of the second half was played with the 35-point rule continuous clock.

Senior Hannah Promes had seven points and junior Laurin Lyons six for the Rams. Senior Xary Nunez-Hiraldo had 15 points and junior Sarah Hinners 12 for the Tigers.

Greene County went eight of 31 from the floor and did not shoot a free throw the entire game. The Rams were one of eight on three-point shots and had 15 turnovers. Gilbert turned the ball over 10 times and went 19 of 42 from the field, seven of 15 on three-pointers, and nine of 10 on foul shots.

All that’s left for the Rams is the postseason. Greene County plays Kuemper Catholic at Kuemper High School in Carroll on Saturday, Feb. 11 at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
