Greene Co Board of AdjustmentThe Greene County Board of Adjustment approved the Mid-American Energy wind turbine project Tuesday.

The Board unanimously approved the conditional use permits for Mid-American Energy to build 41 wind turbines in northeastern Greene County as part of the Beaver Creek Wind Project.

There are a total of 85 turbines, the other 44 will be located in northwestern Boone County. The turbines will produce 170-megawatts of energy and create $19 million in property taxes for Greene County. Greene County landowners provided 4,500-acres in easements for the project.

As part of the conditional use permit, Mid-American also has drainage and road use agreements in place with the County. Mid-American will also be responsible for repairing drainage tiles, and turbines or disconnecting them.

An office will be located in Ogden and the substation will be built in Boone County. A pre-construction meeting will be scheduled prior to the start of construction in late April. The turbines will be fully functional by December.

The project must now be approved by the Boone County Board of Adjustment, their meeting is slated for tomorrow night.
