Proposed Wind Turbines in Greene CoA wind turbine project from Mid-American Energy is getting closer to starting construction.

Mid-American Energy wants to build 85 wind turbines, which will be split between Boone and Greene counties. The wind turbines would be located in the northeastern part of Greene County.

County Environmental Health Administrator Chuck Wenthold says the project was passed by the Boone County Planning and Zone Commission and their County Board of Adjustment. The project now has to be approved by the Greene County Board of Adjustment. A public hearing on the topic will be held at 11am this morning at the boardroom in the courthouse. The Board will consider approving the conditional use agreement with Mid-American.

The project was approved by the Iowa Utilities Board this past September. Construction is scheduled to start this spring, with the turbines to be delivered in July and erected in August. The project is suppose to be fully operational by this December.
