The Greene County Board of Supervisors met Monday in regular session.
During open forum, representatives with the ISG Group gave a presentation. They work primarily with drainage districts in Iowa, but Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams told the Board they were willing to design a law enforcement center with additional space for a jail, magistrate court and a fire station for Jefferson for free. The Board took no action following the presentation.
The Board then approved the County Recorder’s report of fees for January of $35,922.
Following last week’s update about the Highway 30 Coalition from member Larry Teeples, the Board agreed to be a member of the coalition and will consider approving the item at a future meeting.
County Engineer Wade Weiss then gave an update. He said they are closing out the pavement project in Paton involving a three-quarter of a mile road on Trinity Avenue and County Road E-18 to Iowa Highway 144. The Bell Tower Community Foundation is applying for a Greene County Community Foundation grant to purchase a penny press machine, which will feature the Mahanay Bell Tower, the courthouse and the Lincoln Highway as designs. They also discussed putting items from the bell tower into the display case in the south room of the courthouse.
Finally, the meeting ended in a budget workshop. The Board discussed the funding request from Greene County Public Health. The Board currently funds public health at $150,000 and they requested an additional $125,000 in funding for the next fiscal year. The Board had questions that needed to be answered by public health and Greene County Medical Center before the Board can make their decision.
