In an effort to communicate better with the public, the Greene County School Board recently approved a new grievance and complaint form.
Superintendent Tim Christensen says the District has always had a grievance policy in place, but they didn’t have a form that people can fill out that specifically states what the proper steps are up the chain to appeal a grievance.
The steps include addressing a concern with a teacher, coach or another individual that is the closest to the problem, followed by appealing that the issue with the building principal. An individual can then address the problem with the superintendent and the final step is appealing the complaint to the School Board. Christensen explains his thoughts about the new form.
“It’s a more conscious level that when you’re meeting with somebody and they don’t agree with the decision that was made, you’ve got that piece of paper and you can say, ‘Here’s the next step that you need to follow’ and you can hand that to them and walk them through the next step. That to me is the key thing. Documentation is good but also just having that piece of paper and that reminder right there in front of you that this is the next step if you so choose to follow up.”
The School Board approved the form at their meeting in January
