The ADM Tiger boys basketball team held the pride of the Raccoon River Conference on the line last night as they stepped outside of conference play to take on the Dallas Center-Grimes Mustangs.

The Mustangs came into last night’s contest with a firm grasp on their former conference winners of 9 out of 10 games against RRC opponents but the Tigers would snap that streak as they earned a win on the home hardwood 78-65.

Both teams would start off the game fast and furious and despite an 8-2 deficit within the first two minutes of the game, ADM would erupt for a season best 21 first quarter points to lead after one 21-17. The Tigers would then carry that momentum throughout the second quarter to lead the way into halftime 40-31 thanks in part to a 5/12 performance from beyond the arc. ADM had perhaps one of their more balanced scoring nights overall that really showed in the second half which ended with 4 Tiger players with double digit scoring totals on the night. ADM took a 55-48 lead into the final quarter and from there the Tigers once again won from the free throw line with a mark of 8 out of 10 from the charity strip in the second half to help the Tigers who outscored the Mustangs 23-17 in the final stanza for the win.

Tajen Ross once again led the Tigers in scoring notching 29 on the night, 18 of which came from beyond the arc. Payton Conrad had a solid night with a double digit assist mark and 15 overall points.

After the game Raccoon Valley Radio caught up with head coach Aaron Mager on what he liked most about his teams performance on the night.

” The fact the guys stepped up and performed really well. We knew DC-G would compete like crazy because they always do. We (the coaching staff) told them before the game and then again at halftime, they’re going to make a run, they’re going to really work at you, they’re going to work defensively, they’re going to continue to cut and move offensively, if you relax they’re going to hurt you off the glass. We had a few breakdowns and we relaxed here and there a little bit but overall I thought it was close to a solid 30 minuets of basketball. I’ll give them two minutes where we lost a little lapse there but overall very pleased by the effort of the guys,” explained coach Mager.

The Tiger boys now watch their overall record climb to 7-5 as they dive back into conference play this Friday where they look to take the season series sweep against the Bombers in Huxley. Catch the game on K107.9 FM with boys game tip off slated for 7:30 pm.
