The Greene County High School girls basketball team trailed North Polk (Alleman) 43-33 late in third quarter on Tuesday night in the middle school gym in Jefferson, but Comets dominated the last nine minutes and won 70-40 in a Heart of Iowa Activities Conference game. NP improved to 8-5 overall and 6-3 in league play while Coach Dean Lyons’ Rams have lost six games in a row and are 3-11 overall and 2-7 in the conference.

The Comets had 15 points from senior post player Hannah Becker and 13 from senior guard Rachel Scott. They were seven of 20 on three-point shots and 28 of 60 overall. The Comets made six of eight free throw attempts and had 13 turnovers.

Greene County turned the ball over 22 times and went 13 of 37 from the floor. They were one of four from three-point range and 13 of 20 from the foul line, including 12 of 15 in the opening half. Junior Samantha Hardaway scored 12 points to lead the Rams, a career high, and senior Taylor Wessling added 10.
