Playing at home for the third time in the last four games, the Greene County High School basketball teams host South Hamilton (Jewell) in the middle school gym in Jefferson. Coverage on KG98 begins at 5:45 p.m. with the girls playing at 6 p.m. and the boys to follow.

Greene County, Saydel (Des Moines) and SH are the bottom three teams in the HOIAC girls’ standings at this point. The Rams downed Saydel on Friday by a 49-23 score, while the Eagles defeated SH 29-28 on Dec. 6. The Hawks are without a win so far, while the Rams are 2-5 overall after starting 0-5. Greene County is making just under 30% of its shots from the floor and is scoring 31 points a game, while the Hawks are shooting just 18 percent and average only 25.6 per contest.

Two of the top three boys’ teams in the HOIAC early in the season square off when the Hawks visit the Rams. SH is 4-0 overall and 3-0 in the league while Greene County is 4-0 in conference play at 5-1 overall. Senior Collin Hill averaged 20.5 points and makes nearly 56% of his field goal attempts to lead the Hawks. The Rams are shooting 52.8% from the floor as a team and senior Trey Tucker is the leading scorer at 21.7 points per contest.
