It was a double dose of excitement for the West Central Valley girls basketball team as they not only engaged in a conference showdown but a Guthrie County showdown as they took to the road for a match up against ACGC in Guthrie Center last night.
The Lady Wildcats were looking to get back on the wining track after loosing their last two straight games and it would be a barn burner of a contest last night.
West Central Valley came out of the gates strong but still saw themselves down at the end of one quarter 18-11. The Lady Wildcats who have normally been very strong through the middle two quarters were strong yet again hanging with ACGC step for step as both teams put up 8 points in the second quarter and 17 in the third quarter. The only downfall for the Lady Wildcats was the 7 point first quarter defecit that had them down by that same margin heading into the fourth and final quarter. West Central Valley mounted a strong comeback outscoring the Lady Chargers 18-13 in the fourth quarter alone, but it would not be enough as they would fall to ACGC 56-54.
With the loss, the Lady Wildcats now fall to 1-4 to start the young season. They are back into the normal Tuesday/Friday schedule meaning the next time the Lady Wildcats would hit the competitive hardwood would be this Friday in another conference road test this time in Madrid taking on the Lady Tigers. That match up will commence from Madrid high school Friday as the first game of a girl/boys double header beginning at 6:00 pm.
