Voters in the Perry School District are asked to get out and vote today as the District’s Physical Plant and Equipment Levy is up for renewal.
The PPEL fund comes before voters once per decade. Superintendent Lynn Ubben stresses that this is not a new tax but instead for approval to continue collecting these moneys for the next 10 years.
The levy produces around $329,000 for the district annually that is used for a variety of equipment and facility upgrades.
“Probably the biggest thing that we get as far as a huge item is buses. You know, our vehicles and our buses come out of the Physical Plant and Equipment Levy. But obviously safety projects, we’ve had boiler replacements and heat pumps, roof repairs and lockers, mowers, tractors, floor scrubbers, phone systems, bleachers, the list goes on and on and that’s over 10 years time” Ubben.
Polls are open today until 8pm. We’ll have results as they’re made available.
