greene-co-supervisors-11_21The Greene County Board of Supervisors met Monday in regular session.

During open forum, the Board discussed financial options for a proposed new vehicle impound lot between the Greene County Sheriff’s office and the Jefferson Police Department. Chief Deputy Jack Williams said per a proposed agreement, the County would pay for the white rock and new chain link fence at the lot located at Perry and North Locust streets. The Supervisors discussed and thought the Sheriff’s office could pay for their portion, pending approval from the Jefferson City Council.

The Board then approved to renew the County’s eye care contract with Avesis for two more years. Representative Terry Lang said in the last complete year, there were 84 exams and 47 eyeglass frames purchased.

County Engineer Wade Weiss then presented to the Board the low bidders for two bridge projects from next year. The Board is expected to act on the bids at a future meeting.

A public hearing was then held about the proposed purchase agreement between the County and the Greene County Community School District. The agreement proposed the County wanting to sell the former National Guard Armory building to the school district for $250,000. Weiss noted that the County purchased the armory from Greene County Development Corporation in 2010 for $150,000. Due to some improvements over time, Weiss estimated to sell it for $250,000. The Board voted 4 to 1 in favor of the agreement with Mick Burkett being the lone “no” vote. Board Chair John Muir explained why he voted in favor of it.

“I voted ‘yes’ because moving forward with plans for our secondary roads and the buildings and the facilities to build a building where we have all our other maintenance buildings here in Jefferson would be a more efficient system, rather than what we’re using out there at the armory, which wasn’t designed for necessarily our use.”

The school district is expected to take ownership of the building by July 3, 2017.

Finally, the Board approved the County Treasurer’s investment report of $5,584,120.56 for October and issuing 217 driver’s licenses last month.
