The second full week of practice for the ADM Tiger wrestling team marches right along inside the 2016-2017 season.
The Tigers are in the hunt for a repeat performance from last season, sending 9 individuals to the district meet and 6 onto the state meet. First and foremost, ADM will need a lot of preparation work before the season begins on December 1st. Preparation including practice, practice, and more practice but also includes a motivation factor.
For the 2016-17 season of ADM wrestling, that motivation factor has a youthful twist to it in the form of sophomores and returning state tournament qualifiers Nolan Harsh and Andrew Flora. Their collective return back to the mat this season not only gives head coach Justin Schmauss two talented wrestlers to work with but two inspirational pieces for other underclassmen.
Coach Shmauss spoke with Raccoon Valley Radio about the inspiration factor these two young wrestlers present to the rest of his Tiger youth stating after seeing Flora and Harsh succeed, they know they can too.
“They know they can (succeed) too because they’ve seen it done. They know what it takes, they feed off of that, and they get motivated because they want a piece of what those guys had. Now just through our senior leadership last year having those guys place and having our younger wrestlers see that just drives them even more,” stated coach Schmauss.
The start of the season nears closer and closer as coach Schmauss and his Tiger team will kick off their first meet December 1st on the road at Ballard High School taking on Ballard and North Polk high schools.
