With the ADM football awards night banquet inching closer and closer with each passing day, it gives fans, players, and coaches alike time to reflect and recognize the 2016 season one last time.

The awards banquet for the football Tigers has been set for this Sunday, which will be the final football event for all the 2016 seniors including ADM’s standout quarterback Sam McCartney. McCartney was part of a Tiger football squad who went 3-6 overall on the season with a 3-4 district record. While it wasn’t the season Sam and the rest of the team had, the injury riddled 2016 season was never the less filled with a lot of positives with the senior quarterback being one of them.

After a 2015 season where McCartney took the the wide receiver role, he was back in the position he was born to play this season taking full advantage of the opportunity. He took advantage of the opportunity to the point where he cracked the top 10 individual passers in all of Iowa’s class 3A in total passing yards on the season, coming in ranked 8th with 1,849 yards. Even when the season unfortunately came to a close, McCartney was still being honored for all his work being selected to district 7’s All-District first team.

Raccoon Valley Radio sat down with ADM’s senior gunslinger as he reflected back on his football accomplishments starting off as a true humble leader would, by acknowledging his teammates.

“Starting with the passing yards, I wouldn’t have any passing yards if it wasn’t for my receivers running their routs and catching the ball so a lot of props to them. It feels really good to be rewarded for the yard work I put in during the offseason to actually have something to show for it,” stated McCartney.

Of course leaders such as Sam quite often credit their supporting cast and he did just that and more crediting both his line and his receiving core as the biggest contributing factors to his success in 2016.

“Definitely offensive line. They stuck with me and they played out the entire play and my receivers did the same, they kept with me, kept running their routs, let me run around and then find them when they’re open,” explained Sam.

Sam, the rest of the seniors, and the entire football team will be recognized and honored for their 2016 season this upcoming Sunday from 4:00-6:00 pm beginning in the high school commons.
