Just as in the case with snowflakes, no two high school basketball seasons are exactly alike, which is certainly the case and then some for the 2016-17 edition of Panorama boys basketball.

In attempting to replicate his team’s 18-6 season from a year prior, head coach Brad Halterman will have to face the annual loss of senior talent, but this season injuries have been added to that list. The Panthers were already going to be without 4 of their top 5 scoring threats from last season, but with some injuries and other events, the Panthers will now be without all five of their top five scorers from last season with the loss of Levi Leiferman. With all that damage done, the Panthers will now only be bringing back 11 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals per game from last season.

Certainly a lot of obstacles have been presented to coach Halterman and his Panther team, forcing him to change plans and categorize the 2016-17 season as a rebuilding year.

“Some different things happened this year and during the football season with injuries and some other things and so even some of the things we worked on this summer, we kinda had to scrap some of those. We’re, to put it bluntly, we’re kinda in a rebuilding type of thing right now,” stated coach Halterman.

A lot of work has been done to overcome these obstacles but as coach Halterman told Raccoon Valley Radio, it will still be a feeling out phase that the Panthers will be going through as they gear up for their Saturday Scrimmage.

“It’s going to be a little bit of a feeling out process for these first few practices and first couple weeks, and probably a little beyond that. Just trying to figure out just who we are, where are exactly our strengths do lay, and how to take advantage of those strengths,” explained coach Halterman.

The Panthers have just two more days before their first test of game action which will be their pride game scrimmage Saturday at Logan-Magnolia high school beginning at 3:30 pm.
