The Greene County Medical Center recognized one of its nurses on Thursday with the bi-annual DAISY Award.

The award is given to a nurse that shows exceptional patient care. The sixth recipient was Carol Christensen. She has been working as a nurse at the medical center for over 30 years and has spent the last 20 years in the long term department. She talks about her reaction to receiving the award.

“It’s a very big honor. I have some very wonderful people that I work with here at Greene County Medical Center and they’re all deserving. So yeah, just a very good honor.”

Christensen was one of four nominees including Allie Hamilton, Maria Bretey and Jodi Schroeder.

Iowa Online Nurse Residency Program Manager for the University of Iowa Nicole Weathers was the guest speaker. She talked about her own experiences in nursing and gave three aspects to consider to be successful in your own profession. Those aspects include staying positive, doing more than just survive and never stop learning. Acute Care Nursing Director Ann Erickson recognized ten other nurses who completed their online nursing residency program.

Nominations came from patients and their families and co-workers.
