State leaders looking for coordinator and volunteers to help with a unique event.

State organizers are looking for coordinators and volunteers for the Iowa Bible Reading Marathon in Greene County. Governor Terry Branstad signed a proclamation in April encouraging all 99 counties in the state to get involved with the initiative. Close to 90 of Iowa’s 99 counties have participated and Greene County is one of the counties who hasn’t done it yet.

It is said that it takes about 80 hours to read the entire Bible and what several counties have done is break it into 30-minute reading sessions. If there are four reading stations, then the Bible could be read in 20 hours and possibly only have to schedule two days complete the reading.

Organizers are hoping to complete the marathon by the end of this year.

Anyone interesting in helping with the marathon are encouraged to contact Des Moines County Captain Karen Brownlee at 319-572-8404 or State Leader Ginny Caliguiri at 641-223-0166.
