Regional swim meets were held around the state for high school girls on Saturday and Greene County High School junior Haley Hall qualified in two events swimming for Boone under an athletic sharing agreement. In all, six Greene County High School students swam for Boone this season, with Hall being the only state qualifier from here. Boone was third among eight teams in the Johnston regional behind Johnston’s 491 points and 447 for Ankeny. Coach Chris Mann’s Toreadors had 284.5 with Carroll at 264, Des Moines Lincoln 259.5, Des Moines Hoover 137, Fairfield 93, and 55 for Des Moines North.
The Toreadors had six events qualify for the Nov. 5 State Meet in Marshalltown including the 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay, and Hall was on both. Both were school records for Boone with the medley placing second on Saturday in 1:50.37, and the 400 freestyle placing third in 3:45.31. The medley enters state competition with the number 11 fastest time and the freestyle is 21st fastest coming out of regional competition.
Coach Mann said, “It was a phenomenal day in Johnston. “The girls were very exited to showcase all of their hard work. The medley relay couldn’t have gotten us off to a better start. They shaved three seconds off their time from last weekend and all four of them had the fastest splits Boone has ever had.”
“We are really looking forward to swimming six events in Marshalltown. Last year it was exciting to have two, it’s hard to believe that we are swimming six events!”
Saturday’s State Meet begins at 12:30 p.m.
