A ruptured gas line shuts down a main road in Stuart Monday afternoon.

Stuart Fire Department and Mid-American Energy received a call about a ruptured gas line on South Division Street about 3:40pm. Fire Chief Mike Renslow says someone was digging and struck an old, abandoned gas line. He adds that once the gas leak was confirmed, then Mid-American Energy sent out a repair team.

South Division Street from the McDonald’s entrance off of Interstate-80 to Hometown Foods was closed while crews repaired the gas line. The road was opened back up by 6:30pm.
