The ACGC Charger cross country teams were in full force Saturday taking part in the state meet.
Out of 15 teams and around 140 runners for both girls and boys sides, ACGC landed their boys squad in 3rd place overall and their girls squad 11th overall. Individually there was quite the spread of Chargers on the boys squad ranging from 15th all the way to 55th. Four boys runners ran their way into the top 40 Landon Foster in 13th place, Noah Nelson in 34th, Logan Scheuermann in 37th, and Cale Billheimer in 40th. Rounding out the boys runners was Clay Billheimer in 55th place.
What turned out to be a great day for the boys was matched on the girls side in a big way as Emma Swanson raced hard to the tune of an 8th place finish overall with her time of 20:16 while it was ACGC’s very own Kate Crawford who would end up taking the class 1A girls individual crown with her first place finishing time of 19:38.
Raccoon Valley Radio was able to catch up with the class 1A girls champ herself, Kate Crawford, as she described the big turning point for her in her eventual first place finish.
“In the last 1,000 meters is when I made my move and I ended up passing and I knew I had to kick it in,” explained Kate.
After all was said and done, when asked what was the feeling surrounding her, Crawford responded in a way only a true champion would answer.
“It’s the most amazing feeling. I had no idea how I would do going into this. I just have a lot of mixed emotions right now,” stated Crawford.
A very successful trip yet again for head coach Colin Shawgo and his Charger teams here in 2016.
