Today we introduce the final candidate running for the vacant Jefferson City Council Ward Two seat.
Kirk Hammer is 49 years-old and has two kids and four step-kids plus seven grandchildren. He’s been in law enforcement for the past 22 years and is currently employed by the Greene County Sheriff’s office as a deputy. He is planning on retiring soon and wants to help the City continue the efforts they’ve made to keep the community vibrant and positive place to raise a family.
The issues he sees for the City include improving the school system and getting the bond issue passed for Greene County Schools, creating incentives to build more housing and getting a new animal shelter established to free up both the Jefferson Police Department and the Sheriff’s office to focus on other responsibilities.
He explains his financial qualifications that makes him a better choice of candidate.
“Years ago I ran a big jail down in Missouri and with that came a $1.5 million budget and I was totally responsible for that budget, so I have some good experience there. I know how to prioritize spending and in a community this size you have to be able to do that. You have to have a one-year, a three-year and a five-year plan because you just can’t finance it all at once.”
He running against Matt Wetrich and Dan Benitz for the City Council Ward Two to fill a vacancy for three years.
