Yard waste open burning season starts this weekend in the City of Perry.

Residents have not been allowed to burn yard waste since last fall after the City Council voted to not allow it in the spring.

Public Works Director Jack Butler says they offer several options for citizens to dispose of leaves, grass and twigs.

“Burning has been a big huge issue.  You know, there’s a lot of folks with breathing problems and on the other side of that, there are a lot of folks that say ‘Hey, that’s my right, I should be able to do it.’  Council is trying really hard to give the most and the best options we can to everybody.”

Burning will be allowed from 10am until sundown through November 20th.  It must be done in the rear portion of private property, at least 30 feet from any neighboring buildings and be supervised at all times.
