Now that the weather is cooling down and it gets dark earlier, children are spending more time inside than they did during the summer.
Perry Fire Chief Chris Hinds says now is a great time to make sure your home is kid safe.
“One of the things that you might want to do is kind of get down on the floor yourself and crawl around, kind of look at your home from a child’s standpoint or viewpoint. Look at those outlets and think about ‘Oh gee, do I need plugs to cover these outlets?’ or ‘What’s the potential of them sticking something in there’ or whatever. In older houses of course some of them have heat grates in the floor that allow heat and air to travel from room-to-room and floor-to-floor. So make sure that those are safe and there’s nothing that they could be injured on.”
Hinds also reminds residents to store household items with safety in mind above convenience.
