After several seasons of holding the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference meet in Ames on the Iowa State University course, the league is going back to having its member schools host the event. Saydel on the northeast side of Des Moines is first up in that role when the Oct. 10 HOIAC meet gets here.
Greene County Activities Director Dean Lansman talked to Raccoon Valley Radio about the change. “The conference has been looking for ways to reduce costs, so when you look at the cost of hosting it at Iowa State, it was getting pretty expensive. You pay for everything including their trainers and basically all their facilities, so moving it to a school or other site where we can charge admission is the direction we’ve taken.”
Lansman added that Greene County is a likely host of the HOIAC in the future.
