A busy week continues for the Perry High School marching band.
After competing last Saturday, marching in the parade Wednesday, playing at the cross country meet and coronation ceremony last night, they will play again tonight at the football game and compete again tomorrow.
Band Director Brandon Weeks says he’s thrilled with the hard work and success they are having so far this school year.
“We talk a lot about setting goals and not just trudging through a rehearsal every day with no purpose. Our purpose, always, everyday, is to get better. We talk growth mindset in the educational world. Our goal is to always grow every day. We use these contests, or I do and the kids have really bought into this too, we use these contests as a way to have someone from outside our district, outside our regular school day, come and tell us what progress we’re making.”
The band already met their goal of earning a score of at least 68 points in competition and there are two more contests left before state.
When asked what makes this year’s band special, Weeks says they’ve built a culture of excellence and the students just want to succeed and be the best they can be. We’ll hear more from him Monday on our Perry Fareway Let’s Talk Dallas County program.
