The Leon Fox Cross-Country Invitational named after the late Perry teacher/coach was held under nearly ideal weather conditions on Thursday on the Perry Country Club course. Dallas Center-Grimes won the boys’ team title and Ballard (Huxley) took the girls’ crown. The Perry girls were eleventh and the Perry boys tenth. Greene County was eighth in the girls’ standings, but had just two varsity boys, which is three short of qualifying for a team score. ADM was fifth in the girls’ race and ninth on the boys’ side.
Grace Stewart led the Perry girls with a 19th place finish in 21:50.46 for the five kilometers (3.1 miles). Others scoring points for the Jayettes were Julissa Calderon, 68th, 26:19.44, Darian McCord, 70th, 26:59.91, Alejandra Rivera, 73rd, 27:16.90, and McKinley Thompson, 75th, 28:02.64.
Perry’s top male finisher was Zach Thompson, 44th, in 18:55.55. Others scoring points for the Perry boys were Mario Cruz, 54th, 19:13.06, Alexis Macias, 56th, 19:14.86, Zach Stewart, 62nd, 19:31.22, and Dane McCarty, 76th, 20:36.11.
Olivia Hansen was Greene County’s top female finisher. She was 15th in 21:42.93, followed by Bailey Cunningham, 24th, 22:19.05, Ashlee Harmeyer, 41st, 23:50.72, Kassie Lamoureux, 67th, 26:16.55, and Izzy Bravard, 69th, 26:33.69.
The only two Greene County boys were Nick Killion, 77th, in 20:36.11, and Brian Hardaway, 82nd, in 20:57.04.
