img_2423Nic Fellom and Brooke Huntington were crowned this year’s Perry High School king and queen Thursday in front of a large crowd in the school gymnasium.

As they called his name, Fellom described the feeling as “thrilling.”

“First, it was pretty shocking.  There was a lot of great guys that were on the court.  That excitement rushes in and you just have to smile.  It’s a great honor to be voted by (my peers) and to represent them and I hope to do that very well.”

Huntington says she was caught up in the moment and at first didn’t even realize she was being crowned.

“I was really excited.  I was really happy for all of us that we got up there.  I mean, I don’t know that I deserved it over the rest butI think that we all did great and it was really fun.  I always hoped (the queen) was somebody that I really wanted to represent our class and I mean, I’m happy that it’s myself and I’m really proud I made it up there.  I would have been happy with any of the girls that were chosen.”

It was an evening full of activities with a pep rally that included performances by the band, dance and cheer teams, a review of the week’s activities, a skit, speech from football coach Jason Olenjiczak and the crowning.

Joining Fellom and Huntington on the court are Grant Eklund, Brandon Juarez, Adan Medina, Brian Amaya, Chelsea Krueger, Emma Olejniczak, McKinley Thompson and Amani Al-Rashid.

Students and community members then headed to the Perry Athletic Complex for a bonfire, courtesy of the Perry Volunteer Fire Department.
