Raccoon Valley Radio will be participating in a National Emergency Alert System test Wednesday.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Integrated Public Alert and Warning System will issue test tones on all EAS machines at 1:20pm.

The goal of the test is to assess the operational readiness and effectiveness of the infrastructure for distribution of a national-level message to the public.

Raccoon Valley Radio uses the EAS to bring our listeners emergency information for things like AMBER alerts and severe weather.

The test will only last around a minute and we will then return to regular programming.

In the case of a major weather event or other unforeseen circumstance, the test will be postponed until October 5th.
