Jefferson Police BadgeJefferson Police Chief Mark Clouse wants to reassure the public there’s no cause for concern as they continue to investigate an alleged stabbing incident on Monday.

Officers were called to the 500 block of North Oak Street around 9:30pm for a report of a stabbing incident. The victim told police that she was trying to find her dog in her fenced-in backyard. When she bent down to pick up the dog, a man was standing in front of her. The individual then grabbed the back of her head and whispered to her “quiet, don’t say a word” then stabbed her and disappeared.

The victim then crawled across the yard, back into the house to put the dog in a kennel and then called 911. Clouse notes the victim had what appeared to be a superficial stab wound to the left side of her stomach and had to be airlifted to a Des Moines hospital from Greene County Medical Center. The injury wasn’t life-threatening.

Clouse says they haven’t been able to find evidence that supports the victim’s story, nor have they found evidence to rule out what she said had happened. Clouse tells Raccoon Valley Radio there’s nothing that indicates the public is in any danger. Police have interviewed other witnesses who said they didn’t hear any yelling or cries for help.

Clouse adds that they are waiting for the victim to be released to further interview her about the night in question.
