Perry fell to Dallas Center Grimes 31-0 in a district two football game in Grimes Friday night. The game featured two starkly different halves with the Mustangs leading the Blue Jays 3-0 at halftime, Dallas Center Grimes erupted for 21 third quarter points and cruised to victory thanks to solid offensive line play and dynamic, tough running from Nathan Brown.

Perry was looking to shake things up offensively coming into the game starting Alexis Garrido at quarterback for the first time this season.  Garrido had a slow start going just 1 for 6 to start the game but then completed 6 passes in a row in the second quarter as the Perry offense operated efficiently at times before stalling out after getting inside at least the DCG 40 yard line on two occasions.  At the half Garridos was 8 of 15 for 55 yards with Brandon Juarez leading the way hauling in 3 passes for 21 yards.  Donald Chavez displayed some shifty running to pick up 45 yards on 14 first half carries but was also credited with a fumble that was recovered by the Mustangs.

Dallas Center Grimes welcomed back their starting quarterback Damon Clapper who played well but wasn’t called on too often throwing 14 times completing 6 passes for 59 yards.  At least 3 dropped passes hampered his production but Clapper ran the offense well and his running back Nathan Brown was outstanding especially in the third quarter when he found the end zone three times in span of 7 minutes and 30 seconds.  If Brown was playing with a heavy heart, he found the strength to turn that into a special night with four second half touchdowns.  Brown’s grandmother passed away this week and the student section broke out into a chant of “Wooly Bear” to honor their classmate and his family because that is what Grandma would say when she got excited watching a game.  Brown had 25 carries and 165 yards on the ground with 98 of those yards coming in the second half along with his four scores.  Dallas Center Grimes dominated the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball in the second half to help propel the offense and stifle the Bluejays offense that seemed to be finding a rhythm before the halftime break.

DCG moves to 3-0 in district play 4-1 overall and will travel to Webster City for week 6 play.

Perry falls to 0-3 in district contests and 2-3 overall.  The Bluejays will try to bounce back with their first win in District 2 next week when they welcome Gilbert to Dewey Field for homecoming.  Tune in for special coverage of the King and Queen coronation Thursday night on the new 99.7 FM and 1310 AM KDLS along with game coverage on Friday starting with the Raccoon Valley Radio Pre Game Show starting at 6:30.
