A De Soto woman has been selected as the 2016 Iowa Games Marty McHone Female Athlete of the Year.
Sixty year-old Ann Hegstrom has been participating in the Games since 2013 and has earned 17 good medals, one silver and one bronze. She also represented Iowa at the State Games of America in 2015.
Hegstrom says she began running after a challenge to herself, and her students, to take on a new endeavor. The new hobby has helped her improve her health and keep her dogs happy.
Hegstrom was chosen for the annual award because of her continued dedication to the sport and role as a model athlete.
