The Norsemen Cross-Country Invitational was hosted by Roland-Story in Story City on Thursday. Both Greene County teams finished well down the line, but a highlight for the girls was the sixth place finish by freshman Bailey Cunningham. In fact, the top four female finishers for the Rams were ninth graders. Senior Olivia Hansen, normally the top runner, has been ill this week. She started the race, but did not finish.

Cunningham covered the five kilometers (3.1 miles) in 22:04.95. Four runners from Dallas Center-Grimes and one from Kuemper Catholic (Carroll) were the only runners in the field of 128 that finished ahead of Cunningham.

The other four Rams that counted in the team scoring were Ashlee Harmeyer, 56th, in 25:48.44, Izzy Bravard, 59th, 26:00.70, Kassie Lamoureux, 67th, 26:26.99, and junior Regan Lamoureux, 88th, 28:01.24.

DC-G won the girls team title with 17 points while the Rams were 10th with 244.

Bondurant-Farrar was the boys’ champion with 65 points. Greene County was fourteenth with 430.

Leading the Rams was junior Nick Killion, 95th, in 21:06.03. There are just five boys out for cross-country at Greene County HS. The other four and their finishers are freshman Brian Hardaway, 108th, 21:44.84, junior Nathan Kennedy, 156th, 23:59.88, senior Sergio Perez, 162nd, 24:24.92, and Jacob Hueser, 202nd, 30:45.45.

Next up is a trip to Perry on Sept. 29.
