We’re often reminded that those riding bicycles need to obey the rules of the road like motor vehicles do, while we know this includes riding with traffic on the right side of the road it also means signaling your intent.
Perry Fire Chief Chris Hinds says hand signals are something that used to be taught and used more and he hopes to see more cyclists using them in the future.
“Bicycles are just like cars, you need to let the other people around you know what you’re doing, what your intentions are. If you’re turning you need to tell them you’re turning, so that they not guessing and they go to pass you or whatever and you turn right in front of them.”
Left turns are signaled by extending your left arm out sideways, right turns can ether be signaled with your left arm out sideways and bent up at a 90 degree angle or by extending your right arm out.
