A new event will bring together several local entities to celebrate arts and culture.

Jefferson Matters: Main Street, Thomas Jefferson Gardens and the Greene County Chamber are partnering together to host Fall Fest on Sunday.

The day starts out with JMMS’ En Plein Air concept where artists gather in the downtown area paint or draw the downtown area at 1:30pm. Program Director Peg Raney encourages anyone to attend for free.

“Even local artists who would like to bring an easel up and just draw, or paint, or whatever they would like to do. They’re welcome to be anywhere around the square, or Thomas Jefferson Gardens, even the (Mahanay) Bell Tower will be open if they want to go up to the tower and just create up there.”

Then from 2 to 4pm will be JMMS’ historical plaque walk, where participants can learn about each of the seven nominees for the next downtown plaque to be designed. At 4pm will be a meet and greet with the new Chamber Director Roccie Hill in the Thomas Jefferson Gardens. Chamber Board President Ora Stevens says it’s a great opportunity for people to meet their new director.

“I know a lot of people are anxious to meet and talk with Roccie and see what her views are about becoming the new chamber director. Come up and introduce yourself, get to know her and she’ll get to know you.”

The day wraps up with a free-will barbecue meal served by the Thomas Jefferson Gardens from 4:30 to 6pm.
