Greene County lost in Maxwell on Tuesday night in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference volleyball in four sets to Collins-Maxwell-Baxter. Scores were 21-25, 25-19, 22-25, 17-25. Coach Donna Carhill’s team fell to 1-3 in the conference and 4-10 overall. They are 13-24 in sets. The Raiders improved to 4-4 overall and 1-2 in HOIAC action.

Set one saw the Rams score six straight points for an early 6-4 lead, but the Raiders answered with seven points in a row of their own. Greene County tied the score at 14-14 before CMB took command.

The second saw had a couple of very early ties, but the Rams led most of the way and never trailed en route to the set victory.

Set three saw Greene County down by six points before a comeback tied the score at 15-15. The Raiders scored five in a row to at that point, but the Rams bounced back again for a tie at 22-22. CMB scored the last three points to take the set.

The fourth set saw the Rams lead 1-0 before CMB scored the next 10 points. The Rams got no closer than four points the rest of the way.

Nadia Fisher was 19 of 22 serving with six aces, Emily Heupel went 17 of 18 with two aces, and Hannah Stein was six for six with an ace serve.Megan Durbin led in kills with 10, while Fisher had seven and Megan Durbin six. Fisher was the leader in digs with 20, followed by Heupel and Stein, each with 14.

Coach Carhill said, “We were working with a revised defense for this match and are still refining it. Even though we were down in the sets, we continually battled back, especially with our serving. I commend the team for staying in the match even when they were down.”

Next up for Greene County is the Ballard Tournament in Huxley on Sept. 17.
