It may be head coach Mary Beth Scott’s goal to be playing great volleyball in October, but for the ADM Tiger volleyball team, that great play has already arrived.
Recently the Lady Tigers found themselves ranked for the first time this season in the 12th spot overall in class 4A. The Lady Tigers have earned that 12th place ranking on the heels of their now 9-3 record on the season. ADM has faced a tough schedule facing off against the likes of class 5A’s Dowling-Catholic for match number one on the season, narrowly loosing to 7th ranked Nevada, while taking wins away from 15th ranked Norwalk.
The Lady Tigers continue to progress thanks to their hard work and great coaching from coach Scott. The Lady Tigers have made great strides in the defensive category coming in at 7th in class 4A in total blocks thanks in large part to players such as junior Amy Gotschalk, one of ADM’s cornerstones, who has 30 out of ADM’s 81 total blocks.
Aside from individual stats, it’s been the team aspect that has coach Scott really pleased about this team’s progression. Raccoon Valley Radio sat down with head coach Scott talking more in depth about the team’s depth that has helped build around the teams cornerstone players, earning the Lady Tigers the great start to 2016.
“I certainly have my back row that is pretty strong. We have Briann Powers that does a great job serving and we also have Eli Mueller and those two are switching out right now. We like to have someone as back up in case Sami Schepers needs a little help,” explained coach Scott.
Coach Scott also mentioned that with the talented roster the Lady Tigers yield there’s a lot of potential and excitement to overcome aspects of the team that ADM’s not as great with.
“Our outside, we could use a little more depth in that area, but we have young people and they’re so willing to learn. There’s a lot of potential there and that’s why I’m really excited as the season progresses everybody’s going to become more comfortable,” stated coach Scott.
The Lady Tigers will take their new top 12 ranking into their match up tonight as they hit the road to take on the Carroll Tigers. The match up between the two Lady Tiger squads will commence at 7:00 pm.
