A traffic incident management class this month in Adair will teach area law enforcement officers and other first responders, plus transportation professionals like tow truck drivers, how to most effectively respond to different types of traffic incidents, such as crashes.
Organizer Jorden Smith says one aspect of the course is explaining the different roles each group plays when dealing with a major crash on the interstate. “There’s plenty of law enforcement that will show up, so usually we’ll have plenty of them to do traffic control if we need to shut down a lane on the interstate or something. That allows us to do our job, get that victim out of the car and into the ambulance, whether we’re going to the hospital in Guthrie County, Des Moines, Atlantic, Greenfield or wherever else.”
The last day to register for the August 20th class is tomorrow. For more information and to register call Smith at 641-745-5254.
Smith will tell us more about the benefits of the class today on Let’s Talk Guthrie County. It airs during the 9 a.m., noon and 5 p.m. hours on K107.9 and www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
