A parent and child golf tournament this weekend aims to give families a chance to enjoy time together and help support three causes in memory of a Perry man that lost his life to cancer.
The Trent Miner Memorial Golf Tournament takes place at the Perry Golf and Country Club Sunday. Organizer Joelle Miner says she and her husband started the summer tradition in 2005 after their youngest son passed away. She says her children grew up playing golf and this seemed like a great way to keep his memory alive.
“It is such an honor, every year to be able to go to Perry High School and award seniors scholarships and it’s all because the Perry Golf and Country Club allows us to use this day, and the people that rally around us. We get to honor Trent and remember him in such a great manner once a year like this.”
In addition to supporting the Trent Miner Scholarship Fund, proceeds also go to Make a Wish and CaringBridge.
The tournament starts with kids age 13 and younger at 9am and 14 year-olds and older will begin at 1pm.
Miner will tell us more about the tournament on today’s Let’s Talk Dallas County during the 9am, noon and 5pm hours.
