Since late June, much of downtown Stuart has been torn up, as Caliber Concrete, of Adair, completes a major infrastructure project for the City.
Caliber Concrete owner Jason Martin tells Raccoon Valley Radio they’ve accomplished a lot in their first several weeks of work. “There’s storm sewer and sanitary sewer under everything all down Division Street. Those sewers are done, we’ve moved a gas line and that set us back four or five weeks, and there’s some paving done. In total, we’re about 45-percent done with the project.”
He adds they hope to complete the first phase of the project at Front and Division streets this week, before moving on to the next step. “We have phase two, then phase three. Phase two is east of Division Street, on Second Street. Phase Three is west of Division Street, on Second Street. They both get new storm sewers, sidewalks, and then the intersection gets redone.”
Martin says if it seems like the project is moving slowly, it’s because there’s a lot of technical work to be completed. “There’s a lot of detail in the intersection. There’s a lot more formwork and hand labor in the Front and Division Street intersection than there is in the rest of the project. I know some folks in Stuart think we’re not moving quite fast enough, but you want it done right and we only want to do it once.”
He says the project is scheduled to be completed by November 23rd.
