Greene County head baseball coach Mark Sawhill knew his team would have to play their very best if they were going to upset number eight Boone on Friday night in Boone during the first round of Class 3A District 4 play. The result was far from it and the Rams ended with a season record of 11 and 17, falling to the Toreadors 15-0 by the 15 run rule in four innings. Boone is now 26-6 and plays Gilbert in the District 4 title game on Monday night in Boone at 7 p.m.
Greene County pitching allowed 13 hits in 3-2/3 innings. Three different pitchers were used, but the Toreadors’ offense was hitting on all cylinders. Plus, the Rams were charged with six wild pitches, two passed balls, and two errors. Greene County had just three hits in four at bats. Freshman Austin Delp had a two out infield single in the second inning, with junior Chase Stoline adding a two out double in the third, and senior Branden Miller had a out out fourth inning base hit.In all, it was a lopsided way to end the season.
