The high school baseball season ended on Friday night in Boone for the Greene County Rams when the eighth ranked Boone Toreadors rolled to a 15-0 Class 3A District 4 victory in less than four complete innings due to the 15-run rule. Boone scored three times in the second, added five in the third, and ended the game with a seven run fourth before the Rams could get the third out of the frame.
Coach Mark Sawhill’s Rams finish with 11 wins and 17 losses while Coach Charlie Easterlund’s Boone team improves to 26-6 and will remain on its home diamond to face Gilbert on Monday night at 7 p.m. in the district title game. Gilbert was a 5-2 winner over Ballard (Huxley) in the first game at Boone on Friday.
Sophomore Dresden Wilson (8-2) had a career night against the Rams. The left handed sophomore pitched a three-hit shut out with four strikeouts and no walks, but was even more impressive at the plate. He entered the game with a .155 batting average and all he did was go three for three with a home run, double, and single, and he knocked in five runs, which was half of his RBI total for the season going into the game. Senior catcher Nolan Newcomb also homered, and sophomore Jayton Hull doubled. In all, the Toreadors had 13 hits and no errors.
Freshman Austin Delp (3-2) was the starting and losing pitcher for Greene County. He gave up five runs, all earned, on six hits and a walk, and he did not record a strikeout. The three Greene County hits were a Delp two out infield single in the second inning, a two out double in the third by junior Chase Stoline, and a one out single in the fourth from senior Branden Miller. Senior Tyler Beger relieved Delp in the third and senior Reid Lamoureux relieved Beger in the fourth. The Rams were charged with two errors.
Miller, Lamoureux, Beger, and Mac Adamson are the four seniors on the Greene County team and they played their final game for the Rams.
