Regardless of which pitcher or pitchers Greene County faces tonight Boone, they’ll face individuals who doesn’t give up much in the way of earned runs. The 11-16 Rams open Class 3A District 4 play tonight in Boone against the eighth ranked Toreadors in the second half of a doubleheader. The Toreadors are 25-6 and starting pitching is a big reason why. In 213-2-3 innings this season Boone pitchers have allowed just 58 earned runs for a staff ERA of 1.90. Sophomore Dresden Wilson is 7-2 with a 1.35 ERA. He threw just three innings on Monday of this week in a 7-0 shut out of Norwalk. Spencer Wilkening, another sophomore, tossed three innings in that same game and he has a 1.83 ERA. Jackson Hull threw all seven innings on Tuesday as Boone downed Webster City 6-1. Hull’s earned run average is 1.43.
Greene County is likely to start freshman Austin Delp on the mound. He is 3-1 and has the only winning record on the team. among players with more than one decision. Delp has a 2.06 ERA in 34 innings on the varsity level with 30 strikeouts to just five walks.
