It was a rough ending to the regular season for the Perry baseball team last night as Winterset defeated Perry 12-2 in the Raccoon River Conference finale.  The Huskies outhit Perry 11 to 3 as they scored 12 unanswered runs to rally from an early deficit.

Perry started on a promising note after having their first three batters reach to start the game.  Kade Van Kirk walked, followed by a Kyle Nevitt double and a Janier Puente RBI single.  Nevitt later scored on a Winterset error to give the Bluejays an early 2-0 lead.

Winterset starter Jack Barker settled down after that retiring 21 of the next 23 batters.  Kyle Nevitt’s walk in the third along with Adan Medina’s double in the 6th were the only baserunners Perry could manage the rest of the way.

The Huskies used a blend of power and speed to break the game open.  Parker Klimesh connected for 2 home runs while Colby Van Pelt smacked a towering solo blast over the left field wall in the 6th.  Nick Nelson added a 2-run triple to go along with a RBI double.  Connor Van Pelt stole 4 bases and Connor Morris scored 3 runs reaching base safely all 4 times.

Janier Puente took the loss allowing 6 hits, 3 walks, and 8 earned runs in 3 innings of work.  Alexis Garrido pitched 2 scoreless innings out of the bullpen while Alex Long surrendered 2 homeruns when entering in the 6th.

The Bluejays close out the regular season with a mark of 11-19 and 5-9 in RRC, while Winterset closes out 18-12 and 7-7 in RRC action.

Perry honored seniors Alex Long and Kade Van Kirk prior to last night’s game.

Perry will travel to Dallas Center Friday night for a 3A district game against Dallas Center Grimes at 7:00.  Shawn Kenney will have the play by play on KDLS and raccoonvalleyradio.com.
