Reagan Osborne looks to see if she can capture any Pokemon

Kids aren’t the only ones hip on smartphone gameplay, even adults are getting in on the new fad of Pokemon Go.

The classic 1990’s video game and franchise is now in the 21st Century with a free, downloadable app to your smartphone that allows any user to capture the digitized creatures in the real world. Rich and Reagan Osborne, owners of Greene Bean Coffee in Jefferson say they first started playing after their son Mason told them about it last week.

“This is the coolest thing in the world from like a marketing standpoint and even tourism. I can guarantee you I’ve thought thousands of things to try to get something, like the QR codes around the square (on the historical plaques) but that hasn’t really gotten people out to walk around the square, but this (app) has.”DSCN4353

That’s Reagan talking about seeing more and more people coming to the downtown square to catch various Pokemon on their smartphones. Angie Pedersen co-owns RVP~1875 and she says her business is a Pokestop where people can get a chance to collect items, like Pokemon, in the game. She points out that Pokemon Go is a great way to draw people into the community for tourism.

“This is a no-brainer. All the attractions, the bell tower, Doreen Wilbur statue, all the murals downtown, they’re all Pokestops and our business is a Pokestop. As an attraction, I would be a maniac not to try and cash in on this.”

Reagan adds that the game also creates social interaction with people because you can go with your friends and walk to several locations to catch Pokemon and you are also engaging in a health activity.
