GC Historical SocietyThe Greene County Historical Society will have lots of activities happening this weekend at the fairgrounds in Jefferson.

For a second consecutive year, they will host a series of “conversations” inside their building on the north part of the fairgrounds. Friday through Sunday will be two discussions taking place at 1 and 3pm each day. Friday’s topics include sports history in Greene County with Raccoon Valley Radio’s own Doug Rieder at 1pm and at 3pm will be Bob and Joyce Ausberger talking about how the land was used in Greene County’s farming history compared to today’s operation.

Saturday’s discussions are how a draft board worked in Greene County at 1pm and a presentation featuring some of the county’s well-known chefs will be at 3pm.

Finally on Sunday at 1pm will be Greene County’s history of school reorganizations and consolidations, especially between 1959-1962 era and the topic at 3pm will be on antique farming and a 1924 steam-powered tractor.

In addition to the “conversations” will be antique farming equipment displays, presentations at the one-room schoolhouse and ice cream socials at 4pm all weekend long.

All historical society events are free and open to the public.
