For the first time since 1999, the Perry Jayette softball team is going to the state tournament. Perry defeated three time defending state champion Dallas Center Grimes 3-0 Tuesday night in front of the largest crowd ever at the Perry Athletic Complex. Junior right hander Emma Olejniczak proved to be the difference allowing only 3 baserunners all night. She surrendered two hits without walking a batter while striking out 9 Fillies. Olejniczak also put Perry on the board in the first inning with a RBI single scoring Johanna Diw. Rachel Kinney later came around to score on a wild pitch to give Perry a 2-0 lead after one inning.
The Jayettes tacked on one more run later in the game when Alyssa Kruger knocked in her 34th run of the season giving Perry a 3-0 lead. The Fillies put only one runner at third base all night following a two base throwing error, but Olejniczak shut the door recording back to back strikeouts to preserve the lead. She set down the Fillies in order in the 7th to finish the game.
