The Perry Jayette softball team defeated Norwalk 7-1 and moved one step closer to the school’s first state tournament appearance since 1999. The game was heard on KDLS and raccoonvalleyradio.com. Perry scored all 7 of their runs in a decisive second inning in which the Jayettes sent 11 batters to the plate. Alyssa Kruger delivered the key blow with a bases clearing double to finish the scoring. Victoria Hegstrom, Maddie West and Johanna Diw added RBI singles in the key inning.
That was plenty of offense for junior Emma Olejniczak, who held the Warriors to just one run despite allowing 9 hits and 3 walks. Norwalk stranded 12 runners on base and could not come up with the timely hit against the future UNI Panther. Olejniczak added 7 strikeouts to her season total pushing it up to 274.
Perry improves to 23-12 and will host Dallas Center Grimes Tuesday night in a 4A Regional Final at the PAC. DCG defeated Knoxville 10-0 Saturday night and has won the last 3 state championships. The winner of Tuesday’s game will qualify for the state tournament. Perry will be looking for their first trip to state since 1999. Gates will open at 6 pm.
The game can be heard with Shawn Kenney beginning at 6:40 pm on KDLS and raccoonvalleyradio.com.
