A Des Moines man has been charged in connection with Friday’s high speed chase and crash at the intersection of Stuart Road and Highway 92 in Adair County.
Sheriff Jeff Vandewater says initially none of the three occupants of the stolen Chevrolet Malibu admitted to being the driver during the chase. Surveillance footage from the Burger King in Missouri Valley later helped authorities determine that 20 year-old Abraham Petro Riko had been at the wheel.
Along with the stolen car, Riko was also found to be in possession of a stolen, loaded Ruger LC9 handgun.
He faces felony charges of 1st Degree Theft and Eluding, and an aggravated misdemeanor charge of Carrying Weapons.
The two other occupants of the car were released by authorities after questioning.
Riko is being held in the Adair County Jail without bond.
